Matti Klenell







De 2000-2006 Matti Klenell fue Jefe De departamento en el Colegio Beckmans de Diseño en Estocolmo. En 2003 a Matti Klenell le concedieron el Premio de Diseño de Ljunggren. Su trabajo esta en las colecciones permanentes del Museo sueco Nacional, Estocolmo, Suecia, el Museo de Diseño y Artes Aplicadas, Gardabaer, Islandia y el Museo de Värmland, Karlstad, Suecia.



Matti Klenell (1972) graduated with an MFA from Konstfack, Stockholm in 1999.
In 2000 he founded the Matti Klenell Studio that today work with various design commissions for a large number of clients. Apart from projects to be serial produced the studio also develops limited edition works as well as public and private art commissions.

From 2000-2006 Matti Klenell served as Head of Department at the Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm.
In 2003 Matti Klenell was awarded the Ljunggren Design Prize. His work is represented in the permanent collections of the Swedish National Museum, Stockholm, Sweden, Museum of Design and Applied Arts, Gardabaer, Iceland and Museum of Värmland, Karlstad, Sweden

Elisabeth Henriksson








Elisabeth : In 2004, I finished my masters degree project from Konstfack, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, in collaboration with Kosta Boda. My theme was “variation” and to make the products coming alive by using simple methods condusive to industrial production. The thoughts I brought with me into the project centred around chance (that which cannot be directed and predicted) vs control. I thought about the value of that which is unique and about the possibilities of working with unique pieces and individuality in an industrial production.

Ceramic for mix

The project aims at introducing a new way of drinking tea or another warm drink (with sugars), replacing the spoon. Ceramic ball is the simplest shape, where this hygienical and qualitative material finds its place.

The ball is put into a glass built with special shapes. Then we have to pour some infused tea into it for exemple: the liquid pushes the ball, and invites users to move it by moving the glass. The ceramic ball comes to mix all various sugars, ringing the glass at the same time. When we drink, this ball is blocked by the gravity in the recess of the glass, moreover than its shape is too big to be ingested.

This is a different and amusing way to use ceramic.

Function creates an new gestural and aesthetic appeal.

Oiva Toikka


El profesor Oiva Toikka es una de las mayores referencias en el cristal finlandés. Su arte imaginativo, rico y valiente de cristal se desvía del aerodinamizado estético del diseño nórdico. La colección de Pájaros es el trabajo más conocido de Toikka. Él ha disfrutado de una carrera internacional y ha recibido numerosos premios, entre ellos el Premio de Lunning, Pro Finlandia la Medalla, el Cristal Mundial Ahora 85 Premio, el Premio de Diseño de Kaj Franck y el Príncipe Eugen Medal.

Professor Oiva Toikka is one of the greatest names in Finnish glass. His imaginative, rich and bold glass art deviates from the streamlined aesthetic of Nordic design. He has worked in the performing arts for as long as he has in glass. The Birds collection is Toikka’s best-known work. He has enjoyed an international career and received numerous awards, among them Lunning Prize, Pro Finlandia Medal, World Glass Now 85 Award, Kaj Franck Design Prize and the Prince Eugen Medal.

Del 5 al 7 de Marzo de 2008
La Universitat de Valencia, el Instituto de Ciencia de los Materiales, en colaboración con la Universidade Nova de Lisboa ha organizado el II Congreso Internacional de vidrio con el título de Glass Science in Art and conservation.


En el Cogreso se tratarán temas relacionados con la restauración y la conservación de vidrios además de arte, arqueología e historia del vidrio. Durante el Congreso tendrá lugar una exposición con obras de Carlos Muñoz de Pablos.

The next conference in Glass Science in Art and Conservation, GLASSAC-08 on March 5-7, 2008 will take place at the Valencia University Historic Building on the Valencia city center.
The poster session and a glass exhibition will take place at the Cloister of the Historic Building.

Following the successful conferences organised in Portugal in 1999, "Glass, Art and Science" and 2005, 'Glass Science in Art and Conservation' by the Portuguese Glass Association, the participants agreed that there was a need for the international glass community to share knowledge and insight across the barriers which all too easily separate glass science and technology from art, conservation and design.

Coinciding with GLASSAC congress, a glass exhibition will be a feature of the 2008 Valencia conference: THE LANGUAGE OF THE MATTER. Carlos Muñoz de Pablos: glassworking painter, by one of the best contemporary Spanish glass working master.

Please note that dead line for regular registration has been changed to 30th January.

Each piece of Sent glass jewelry is handcrafted in Murano, Italy, at the studio of sisters Susanna and Marina Sent.
Susanna and Marina are descended from generations of Venetian glassmakers. While Susanna studied architecture
and Marina studied chemistry, they now follow in the family tradition, creating modern pieces of jewelry quite different
from all the other glass jewelry one finds in Venice.

Bob and Laurie Kliss






Bob and Laurie Kliss :"Glass has always intrigued us, especially the material's ability to convey pure color. From our beginnings, working with stained glass, to the present, working with hot glass, we have considered ourselves colorists. Some of our current series take advantage of the pure color of glass in the form of shard drawings. Shard drawings are basically abstract assemblages of colored glass shards, cane, stringer, and murrini. The vessel's form becomes the canvas upon which the shard drawing is displayed."

James Minson






Australian born James Minson has degrees from Sydney College of the Arts, Tama Art University Tokyo, and a Master of Psychology degree from Antioch University Seattle. He is a third generation glass artist, his grandparents, moving from London in the 1920's, established the Minson Scinetific Company in Sydney. His work is represented in both public and private collections worldwide and he teaches internationally. In 2002 James established the Minson Escuela De Vidrio studio for foster youth at the Misioneros Del Camino home in Sumpango, Guatemala. He is currently undertaking a PhD. in psychology at Walden University.

Este artista australianao de tercera generación de artistas del vidrioció el Minson Su trabajo esta tanto en colecciones públicas como en privadas de todo el mundo y da clases internacionalmente. En 2002 James estableció el Minson Esquela de Vidrio,el estudio para la juventud adoptiva en Misioneros Del Camino a casa en Sumpango, Guatemala. Él actualmente emprende un PhD. en psicología en la Universidad Walden.

Fowler considers herself to be a colorist. She has been influenced by painters such as Turner and Whistler, and the Impressionists. She deeply loves Klee for his beautiful use of color, and the tenderness and whimsicality expressed in his paintings.
